Broke twice and no warranty
Very poor quality/
the left step broke just few months after purchasing.
Was able to get part replaced while still on warranty.
After year and a half the step broke again! Called them and they said out of warranty, although their web site states lifetime frame warranty. I was told the frame is considered only a central piece that everything attaches to and if the part can be removed - it is NOT a frame.
In any case - very bad product that will not last long so do not waste money on this junk.

Poor Quality
I purchased my elliptical Feb 2011 and in Oct 2011 it started making a clanking noise. I emailed Horizon but sent the email to the wrong address so my inquiry went unanswered.
Finally in Feb 2013 after taking the machine out of storage I hired a repairman to replace the flywheel. Horizon was kind enough to give me the parts for free even though my warranty had expired. It cost me over $220 between the two visits for labor.
Within 24 hrs of the repair while using the machine the pedal snapped off the arm. The quality of this machine is bad. Obviously from reading the other reviews my experience seems to be a one-off however I doubt I could ever bring myself to purchase anything Horizon again.

Resistance is too hard
Anyone experiencing the resistance (even at low levels) is too much?

Great deal at the Sale Price!!
I note most things mentioned in other reviews, but just thought I would add my .02. Best instructions and packaging of bolts, nuts, washers etc. EVER!!!! Every step is broken down and each step has its own numbers parts pack. There is no making mistakes with this machine, piece of cake. I would suggest however, that you do not used the supplied tools, as they are cheap and you will strip a hex or your knuckles using them. I have a good hex wrench all-in-one that worked much better than the supplied hex wrenches. The supplied open-end wrench supplied is a joke. But other than that, great deal at the sale price of $749.99.

Great Purchase
My husband and I absolutely love this eliptical, even prefer it to the ones at the gym. I like the fan feature and it is a very smooth, natural stride. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a good cardio machine at a good price, especially if you wait for it to go on sale!

Still not the ONE
I previously had a Horizon CSE2 that I also purchased at Canadian Tire. Seemed like a good quality machine...but the Crank arms kept snapping off at the welds. So I got fed up and bought the "new" CE5.2.
It has nice features, like programs and a flat stride and seemed like they re-designed it to spread the stress of a vigorous workout over more points vs. the CSE2. However, the left pedal link pivot pin snapped at the weld that connects to the crank link.
Horizon is sending me all the parts to repair it, and sending out a tech to inspect the machine for any further defects, but now my workouts are suspended, again....
I weigh 180-200lbs and I work out 5-6 days a week on this machine. I think I will have to purchase a full commercial machine next time at over 4 times the price of this machine.

Good quality product
We've had this elliptical for a few weeks now and are quite happy with it. It was packaged very well to prevent damage during shipping. Assembly was very easy, they had the instructions broken into eight steps, accompanied by individually numbered bags of hardware for each step. So it's not like you get a big bag of bolts and have to figure out which ones go with which step. All parts were clearly labelled in the instructions, and left and right sides were marked on the parts. And the instructions were not translated from Chinese to English, they were obviously written in North America so it was easy to understand. All the tools required to assemble are included (all that is needed is a wrench, an allen key and a phillips screwdriver). They even pre-greased certain connections and had them covered in plastic. Everything that is needed is included in the box, just open it up and put it together! It took me about 2 hours to do by myself, taking my time. While still in the box it is quite heavy, so you will definitely need help lifting it. Once assembled it is easy to move around as the front end has wheels; you just pick up the back end and wheel it around. It does not, however, fold up like a treadmill (not sure if any elliptical does this?)
I have used it only about a dozen times so far, so I can't comment from experience on long-term durability but the parts are all high quality and it is a very sturdy machine, so my impression at this point is that it will last a long time. I've used many different ellipticals in the gym and this one feels just as sturdy. Operation is very smooth and whisper quiet (especially compared to our treadmill), which is great for watching TV while exercising.
The control panel is easy to use, and has the features I want and not a lot of extra stuff I wouldn't use anyway. You can operate in manual mode, or choose from distance, time or calories burnt options. It also has an interval mode, hill mode, and weight loss mode, all of which will vary resistance in different ways. The resistance settings work well, you can really feel a difference as you increase the resistance. It displays distance, time, speed, resistance level, calories and heart rate. I think the calories and heart rate readings are higher than reality, but on these machines that is never very accurate, just an indication.
It does not have an option to incline the machine, but I wasn't looking for that in an elliptical anyway. I just increase the resistance if I want a harder workout.
It has a fan with three speed settings. It also has an audio input and two speakers so you can plug your ipod in for tunes as you workout. It even comes with the audio cable to connect your ipod! The speakers are decent quality, nothing too great but definitely good enough for working out. It also has a headphone jack in case there's someone else in the room who doesn't want to hear your music (although I don't know why you wouldn't just plug your headphones directly into your ipod anyway).
Overall I think this is a high quality, well designed piece of equipment that should last for a long time. It goes on sale for 50% off fairly often and at that price it is a great deal. I would highly recommend it.

Well designed/constructed
Great value for the $500 sale price. I've owned Precor and Vision cardio equipment before and this is well worth it.
Smooth operation and sturdy for a 190 lb user, the only peeve is that there is no power button for on/off.
One hiccup with assembly, had to modify one of the holes on the arms to slide the bolt through.......fortunately i had my Dremel with a metal grinding drill bit for the job.

Very Happy with Purchase
Like most people, I waited until it was on sale. I had read the reviews of all the ellipticals and decided on this one. It was easy to assemble and works great!. It is quiet and sturdy. There are 4 people in the house that use it including one athlete who feels it is better than the ones at the gym. It does what it's supposed to do. I learned a long time ago to avoid the cheap stuff as it works fine for a few weeks, but then either gets noisy or simply breaks.
