Not A Terrible Purchase
I bought the Magellan eXplorist GC GPS specifically for Geocaching and while it has served me well for the past year or so, I am still not one hundred percent satisfied. My number one issue with this device is that it eats up batteries like nobodies business but still it does what it is designed to do. I've had no trouble finding any Geocache that I've set out to find and being able to send co-ordinates straight to the device is a huge advantage. If you are looking for a device simply for Geocaching, you can't go wrong with this model. However, if you plan to do more with it, I'd keep searching.

Great for first time user Geocaching
Finding this to be a great little unit for the geocaching we are doing. Had it for almost a year and it is still performing well. The compass moves around a lot so would not recommend it for that use.
Battery life is great as we use the lithium ones. Would recommend it to other geocachers. Easy downloading files. When traveling just use your usb port in the vehicle, save on battery life.

Not a good buy
I bought the Magellan eXplorist GC GPS and Compass and it was not a good device. I bought it mainly just for geo caching and it didn't turn on 90% of the time. I would press the power button and it would freeze somewhere halfway between on and off and I wouldn't be able to turn it off. I would have to take the batteries out and put them back in and try again to turn it on.
I tried downloading geo caching coordinates but the gps wouldn't allow me to download them.
I do not recommend this machine. Instead of keeping this I returned it and got a Garmin Etrex 20 which is a very good machine.

good bang for buck
Between myself and friends/family I have five of these units working. I also have an expensive Garmin for my outdoor pursuits. For fun geocaching this unit is great and I would ignore the reviews trashing it while comparing to a device that costs three times as much. Accuracy is on par with other GPS units of higher price points...bottom line the most fun you will have geocaching at an entry level price.

I am going back to Garmin!
I have created many Way point and tried to see if the device will bring me back to it and it was off by 20-25 feet many time. The compass bounces all over the place. I never had compass issues like that with the Garmin. I returned it today and will get the Garmin Etrex wish I had before and I really apppreciate the good old Etrex now. Please if your new to GeoCaching don;t get this.
An honest opinion !

Amazing value for dollar
I have been Geocaching for about 8 years. This little unit is made for this activity. I think many of the negative reviewers may have tried using this as an overall GPS. It has paperless caching, maps, and other great features (including a Premium 1 mth membership - enough time to download 1000s of caches near home). Only complaints are small font size for aging eyes, takes a moment to refresh and a bit tricky to enter waypoints for multi-caches. Still amazing bang for your buck.

Great for the price.
This is a great GPS for geocaching. It is easy to use and learn and the paperless caching feature works very well. You need to be moving in order to get a good compass reading is about the only drawback. It is not meant for car use so don't even think about it for that use. From my experiences the battery life is excellent especially on the batteries it comes with. It operates well on all three types of batteries. For entry level geocaching it is a great beginner tool. You can do tracking with it and way point marking and it will get you home.

Garmin is much better
I returned this unit and bought the Garmin. Don't waste your money on this one.

I used it in Mexico and it wasn't worth taking
I used it in Mexico and it wasn't worth taking.
The battery time on this unit is very poor. Using it I had it seems about 4 hours on intermittent use.
I found it very have to use and there are no
really good sort for feature points. If you get a few points in it is hard to find them again. The geotrack didn't work for me as the batter life wasn't good and I kept loosing the trail.
Would be nice if I could select to view only by category but not there. So if you have over a few screens of points it is very cumbersome to get the right point. If it breaks down I won't be bothered to send for warranty. The electronic compose does not work if you are stationary.

Buy for the warranty!
Bought this when it first came out (price matched it because it was cheaper somewhere else). It worked well for about 6 months, and then suddenly stopped working. Canadian Tire offers a 1 year exchange on this product (where as Magellan only offers a 30 day!). I was glad that I could exchange it, so always a good idea to purchase from CT for the warranty.
As for accuracy, it is accurate to about 10ft. So for geocaching, it's alright. Might have to use more of your instincts, but you'll get close with this thing!
Its nice on how much information it can hold from the website as well.
