Simple to use smoke detector, including a Hush button, which will come in handy when steamy showers set the alarm off.

Not a reliable product
This detector seems to go off at will. If you need an alarm to wake you in the middle of the night, then this is the purchase for you. Even with the new batteries in place, the alarm goes off.

Stay Away
The front loading battery is a great feature, just don't depend on this product actually functioning. It chirps everytime I hit TEST but I can blow smoke right into it and nothing happens.

Great alarm

I really like this alarm. It has a lot of features that stood out for me. The trap door for the battery is a great feature. I don't know how many other alarms I've had that were damaged when I was replacing the battery (ie the electrical components were wrecked). It has hush and test features which are great for anyone who knows the pain of the alarm going off when you step out of the shower or do some cooking. I have one of these models (along with photoelectric alarms).
Ionization alarms function by detecting smoke and other products of combustion. They react with a chemical sensor in the alarm. They primarily detect flaming fires.
