Don't even think about taking it home Please, if you value peace, quiet and your sleep, never ever purchase this. Keeps going off for NO reason; sounds GAS alarm at weird times, again for NO reason. Hard to shut off; basically have to unplug and rip the battery out to shut it off. I have a ceiling mounted CO detector that has never gone off, unlike this one. Complete waste of money. waste of money We bought one of these alarms because we bought a house with a gas stove and wanted to be alerted to any leaks. We placed the detector in the hallway near the kitchen. Several times now the gas alarm has gone off. The first time, we were making fondue with wine, and one time I had just added vanilla extract, so perhaps it is sensitive to evaporating alcohol. But it has also gone off for no apparent reason. And pressing reset only stops it for a second - we have to unplug it and put it outside for at least an hour to make it shut up (the steady beep stops after a few minutes but then there are intermittent beeps for quite a while). Total waste of money, as far as I can tell. April 19, 2011

Do NOT Buy I had this unit for one year in my son's bedroom. We had two false gas alarms but I could not smell any gas. I have the CO only version of this as well next to the furnance closet and that unit has not given one false alarm. I would not buy this unit again. February 21, 2011

Saved our son's life This morning my son called me at work to tell me the alarm was going off. I was worried it was a false alarm but told him to open the windows and turn off the power switch to the furnace. I called my husband (who luckily was not far away) and he headed home. He checked our furnace (he is a gas serviceman) and discovered the burner was 'carboned up' so it wasn't burning properly. He said the CO was at the bare minimum to register at that point. If he hadn't caught it and cleaned it the CO would have built up and our son might not have woken up in time. Scary thing to have happen but so glad this unit did it's job! January 27, 2011

False GAS Alarms --> Same Story As Others I thought that buying a unit that could detect GAS and CO2 leaks was being smart, but obviously I was wrong. As others mentioned, worked fine for first few months, but started giving false GAS alarms out-of-the-blue and I've had to unplug it now. I would try changing the battery, but supposedly, it shouldn't use the battery (only for backup), so there's no way it should be dead by now.....and even if it was, that's not an excuse for making a GAS alarm go off. I recommend ppl go with a simpler (and cheaper) alarm that only detects CO2....unless you've got a bad sense of smell, or other specialized gas detection needs. September 28, 2010

Screaming false alarm machine Owned it for almost a year. Was fine for three or four months, then went nuts. False alarms progressively worse and are now every few days. Totally unusable!!!!! DO NOT BUY!!! September 10, 2010

Expected more from such a high-tech looking alarm I am really dissapointed with this unit, and I have to agree with some other reviewers, this alarm gives too many false alarms. It is really anoying, the manual even tells you to call 911, but the other alarms in the house are okay. I tried replacing the battery, and after a month another false alar. I do not recommend this product and I hope CT takes into consideration the reviewers comments when slecting products to carry. Go with the reviews provided here, read and educate yourself before selcting a product so that you don't end up like me for not reading the reviews. July 28, 2010

Poor Quality This alarm gives way too many false alarms. It is too sensative to any thing in a arasol can, If any thing is sprayed near the alarm it will go off saying there is a gas leak. Dont Buy. April 29, 2010
