Lights stay on from motion sensor!
Since the light never turns off from an over sensitive light/motion/heat sensor... You need to just unplug the sensor on the board. Its quick to do and the lights still work. There's no risk as far as I can see and lights still come one after opened or closed.
1. unscrew the two bolds on the rear of the unit.
2. plastic cover folds down right side of board there is 3 wire little connector pull it out. It actually says motion sensor on the board but there's only 1 3 wire connector.
3. replace screws and viola!
Happy now quiet and dependable unit for me so far. This is too common a defect though and they should have not released this oversensitive sensor. I should at least save a bit of power too!

Not Happy with Genie
I purchased this as a gift for my husband, in November, its now January, and after two replacement power heads, and one replacement mother board, our opener is still not working, it does the set forward limit, then blows the motor and mother board. Genie has sent us replacement parts (refurbished only), at OUR cost (totaling near $100 already) and we still are manually opening our door. Pretty expensive ornament hanging from our ceiling. Installation is simple and we checked and double checked everything, not happy at all

Only working one side
Hi I bought genie powermax 1500 on Black Friday and tried to install it but while programming it only works with + sign and - minus didn't works.....can anyone suggest me that or should I change with another one??? Might the unit it defective......

Like it, but have had issues with it
We bought this opener in early 2012 and it installed easily. It worked well until about summer (maybe about 6 months in) and then stopped communicating with the remotes & keypad. It would stop halfway down and return up to the top. We had to use the manual close a few times. We reprogrammed it and it seemed to be working fine. But the same thing happened again yesterday. And now won't go up or down. We'll try to reprogram again - but really its quite a pain if this keeps happening.

Junk
Genie makes the worst openers money can buy. All plastic components, and not rebuildable. The rail bends and flexes so much so the door wont run smoothly or push down tightly. Terrible product, and shouldn't even be sold in Canada, or any place with frost/snow

Uncontrollable Lights
Just purchased and installed two of these units in my new garage. These are good openers, easy to install, and generally work well... except the lights! On numerous occasions, I look out my window and, low and behold, the lights are on. I go out and check around but find nothing. Throughout the day, they also come on several times. I do not have kids at home or pets, and in fact I have the motion sensors on both units totally covered. I called the company and they suggest disconnecting the motion sensors on my new openers. That does not seem reasonalble though does it? Anyway, I guess it is either that or just take the light bulbs out altogether. Either way I do this, these new units are disappointing. Based on the uncontrollable lights only, I would not recommend you buy one ...at any sale price!

Much Improved
This is a great upgrade for 220 on sale. It is very quiet and the screw drive is just neat.
Below is my only issue but overall this is a much improved unit as I said above.
I got this mostly for the soft start/stop but was a little disappointed when it only did this at the fully closed and fully opened positions. It does not apply the soft technology if you manually stop the door while going up. Since the door goes up quite quickly it creates a small jolt on the screw assembly.

Great opener!
Bought this on sale $199, absolute must buy at that price, easy install with best instructions I have ever used, opens door much faster than chain drive, keypad is handy, quiet operation, love it!!!
