What is the maximum temperature this product reaches?

Answer:

The maximum temperature the product reaches is 7 degrees Celsius (45 degrees Farenheit). The product shuts off after this point.

Can I attach to sump pump discharge pipe?

Question:

Can I attach this to a sump pump discharge pipe to ensure it doesn't freeze during the spring. pkg says no ground contact, or moisture, I do not understand & see any difference between the heat cables designed for eavestroughs.

Answer:

Pipe needs to be full of water otherwise thermostat will try to heat the air in the empty pipe. Tape will burn out trying, since it won't be able to do that.
I think that the eavestrough ones don't use a thermostat and just rely on the resistance of the wire to produce a constance source of heat. The heat tape ones use the thermostat to turn the tape off and on.

Can it be used to keep a ground drain open?

Answer:

No. pipe needs to be full of water for thermostat to operate properly. It will just burn out if the pipe is empty

May be able to use the ones for gutters and stick it up the drain if you can.
