Missing features

"I bought this unit to be installed in a recess in my basement under the gas fireplace on the main floor. It looks very nice and throws lots of heat. The blower is very quiet, even on the high setting. The advertisement online says it has a remote and adjustable brightness controls but it doesn't. Mine has 3 switches on the front. One for the main power which turns on the flames. A second switch for the 750 Watt setting for the heater and a 3rd switch for the 1500 Watt setting. I don't care about the remote or adjustment and got it on sale so I'm keeping it, but just beware."

Not So Great Anymore

"The provider of this unit has changed. It is no longer Muskoka. There is no longer a remote provided and the controls are very basic. (No Timer settings etc) The metal seems very thin and dents very easily. No trim pieces are provided. This product has a hard time to be worth any sale price and not worth full price of $299. For that price you can get a Muskoka with all the pieces that are missing from this one. I would not recommend this unit."

"Great item, but one caveat. It says that a remote comes with the item and I did not get one. Be sure to call CT on Monday and confirm this."

Can this be used as an insert to a cavity in the wall?

Answer:

Yes – the electric firebox can be inserted into a cavity in the wall or a mantel that has been constructed to the exact dimensions of the firebox

This item is recommended for mantels – the Muskoka Masonry Insert (64-3509) is available for wood burning fireplaces. Dimensions are as follows.... Item # 64-2197 (Muskoka 28” Firebox for Mantels): 27.2" x 9.7" x 23.1" and Item # 64-3509 (Muskoka 25” Masonry Fireplace Insert):24” x 10.8” x 19.5”

Does this unit come with a remote control, and can it be wired to a wall thermostat?

Answer:

This fireplace insert DOES NOT necessarily come with a remote. More recent models do not. Check in store to verify the model they have in stock. And models with remote cannot be special ordered.

Answer:

yes it comes with a remote contol. The remote has all the same buttons and functions as are on the front of the unit.

The unit does not have the option or even ability to be wired to a thermostat.

It's a great great unit. Excellent quality, works great, puts out a good amount of heat on both settings, and most important, the fan motor is VERY quiet.
