great spliter
This is a good wood splitter, it's generally not used for hardwoods, but for the wood we regularly chop it does the job.

Good tool at great price.
I bought this log splitter (on sale) three years ago and have used it to split 4+ face cords of wood a year every fall for our fireplace insert. It was money well spent. I'd have to say that this machine has paid for itself. Aside from two minor complaints, I'm very impressed with its durability and power. First, it really needs to be placed on a bench or stand to avoid having to work bent over. A neighbor bought me a Yardworks stand for it for Christmas (I've split wood for him, too!) that I will be putting together this summer. Second, if the hydraulic ram only travelled 2" closer to the fixed wedge, this splitter could handle almost any size log on the first pass. Most logs pose no problem for this machine. The attached pictures show the 14" diameter ash trunk that I split with no problem. Would recommend this product to anyone. Since it is electric, you can even use it indoors in a pinch.

Hard wood may be a problem
I bought this unit yesterday and returned it.
I Have an ash tree that died four years ago, so it's a hard dry wood. I opened the air valve four turns, plug it in a shot heavy power cord and tested it on a 10" wide piece of log.
It would not split at all. I moved the log around and tried five different spots and gave up. Tried a 4" thick side piece of a log and that's when I said it's going back. On the box it said it does the hardest wood. Not mine.
There was some hesitation in them taking it back and it took quite some time, as they had to get someone to come and check it out first. In all it was a wast of time and hope I can save someone else the time. If you have hard dry wood like I have, good luck. I do like its small portable size and light weight.

Best Purchase Ever
I have almost every tool there is LOL but have never had a log splitter, and was always told only the big gas ones are any good well thats not true at all as this thing works like unbeleiveable. It says 10 inch max i was just splitting logs that were 20inchs long and up to 15inchs round and some with knots and it went threw them like nothing. I am very pleased with it and even if it isnt on sale buy one!!!!!

Easy and fun
Wood burning is lots of work. This just makes splitting logs and making kindling easier, faster and much safer. At 200$ sale price I finally jumped for it. great buy.

Watch the yellow bleed screw!
Bought it yesterday, set it up last night! Had an issue with the ram coming back really, really slow. Had to move it forward an inch or so then it returned at normal speed. After a couple of runs it's now working as it should.
Make sure the bleed/vent screw is open during operation and closed when finished or moving it. Bought the stand, Never liked it so instead made a little table waist height a little sturdier. Works fine now and my wife loves to use it as well. It's slow but works on the knottiest of spruce no matter what the size. I will make up an extension from the hydraulic handle to hit the green button. This way it will be a functional one hand unit cause this is a PITA to use as it is now. You can't steady the junk of wood this way.
Got it on sale at $199 and it's all I hoped for...No need for the 6.5 ton unit, waste of money. Also bought the 4 way ram and it works OK as long as the junk is 6-10" round...

Works well
Split half a dozen cords a year with this. Handles green birch and spruce/pine up to 16" diameter with ease. I set it up on a workmate - get help, it's heavy. Use it when the temperature is above zero - doesn't like the cold. It works too hard and trips the breaker. Tried the 4-way accessory - wouldn't recommend it.

log splitter 4 ton
Great deal. I split about 20 cords of maple and yellow birch with this beast. Some 10-12 inches. Only refused about 3 times with sevrere knotty wood .Highly recomend especially for in a shed or basement.

very happy
I bought this logsplitter last fall on sale for half price and am nothing but pleased with the purchase. Split enough pine, maple and ash to fill my halfton truck 10 times. Do agree to look out for the bleed valve as mine did chip off a little bit but if you position correctly there is no longer a problem. Woud recommend this procuct to anyone.
