Great trimmer, suprising battery life!
I have a long hedge on the side of my large backyard and was pleased to be able to trim the WHOLE thing on one battery! I like the 18V setup, because it uses the same batteries as my B&D drills, so I have 3 batteries total which can do every bush around the house! This trimmer is powerful (just as good as the B&D corded one I had previously) it is lightweight and comfortable to hold. The only way it could be better is if it had a lock switch and maybe Lithium Ion batteries so you could charge them faster and at anytime (not a problem for me since I use them on various tools). I recommend this as well as picking up a 18V cordless drill set so you have an extra battery or 2 for the large jobs.

Would not recommend for large jobs
I've had this hedge trimmer for over a year now and while it has good qualities, there are some issues which I find annoying. My main beef is that it does not have a permanent on-switch so you physically have to hold the trigger at all times. For small jobs this won't be a problem, but after a while your hand will start to cramp, especially after extended periods holding your hand at different angles while trying to trim different parts of the hedge. It also has a safety tab that you have to push forward with a fair bit of force before the on-switch will engage. Whenever your hand becomes sore and you let go the handle even slightly, the trimmer stops and the safety switch engages right away. This unit is fine for small shrubs, but not for extended use.

Don't Hate Trimming My Hedge Anymore
I had corded hedge trimmers but always dreaded hauling around a hundred feet or so of extension cord. I first got the matching grass trimmer so I decided to get this hedge trimmer since they both had the same battery. I didn't have real high expectations but was pleasantly surprised at the power this unit has. It is also light weight and easy to maneuver. Very good for light duty work. Since I now have 3 batteries (my grass trimmer came with 2) having a battery always charged and ready to go is no problem

Black & Decker 18 Volt Cordless Hedger
I bought this trimmer about 2 weeks ago and have used it 3 times for about an hour each time. I has good power, is lightweight and good battery life. Its best to keep the battery plugged in when not in use so it is always ready - this does not harm the battery according to the manual. 2 batteries would be nice - but 1 is enough.
