Pleasantly surprised

"Used on a one third acre property with mix of deciduous trees. Works well in vacuuming and chopping up small (birch) and large (catalpa) leaves, even damp ones. Requires a little patience in adjusting wheel height. My wife (Chief Gardener !) gives it two thumbs up !!"

Worst Purchase ever

"This is the worst purchase ever for a number of reasons I have a 1/2 Acre lot and surroundeed by decidous tree and this vacuum just does not measure up I have to go over a spot 3 to 4 times in order to p/u the leaves,it does not mulch very well, the bag is very small for me to my lot it would take a week. I did try to adjust the height level but to no avail. One good thing it assembled very easy. Also I was not aware that I would not be able to return it for a refund because it just does not measure up. So I will bring it back for repair until it works up to the level for what it was adverdised. I will not return to Cdn tire. Bear"

Not all what it could have been

"The idea has potential but this tool doesn't. It mulches great, that's about it. If you have a very small yard and you really, really, really hate raking, fill your booths...otherwise save your money.

Although doing the lawn mower is a pain because the bag fills very quickly, it still beats this sole purpose tool by a long shot.

back to the rake, this Lawn vaccum will be in a garage sale by next summer.

PS: don't trip over the extension cord."

The worst purchase ever

"Easy to put together looks good but looks can be deceiving. Lasted 10 mins sucked up a tiny twig and that was the end. Removed the twig and it blows out instead of vacuuming very poor product."

Could of been much better.

"Great idea I thought, a push lawn mower sized leaf vacuum, too bad it's underpowered. The main problem is it will jam with any heavy work, the smallest twig will stop this thing and getting it cleared up requires the removal of 8 screws. Other problem is mulch ratio, more like 3-1 than 16-1.

The good? I gave it 2 stars for it's ability to handle small ammounts of leafs or leafs spread out, for small lawns with limited ammounts of fallen branches/twigs it should work fine."

"I absolutely love this leaf vacuum. It is such a great time saver and works well. I found assembly to be quick and simple and the operation of the unit is a breeze. I highly recommend this product to anyone with a large lot and many leaves to deal with. Great buy!"

It works...ok

"I bought this wheeled vac a few days ago. It was super easy to assemble and use.

It works well overall! But!

Some negative things would be the small bag. My back yard is roughly 40 x 40 feet. I had to empty the bag 12 times
The impeller gets "clogged" in the center which limits the amount it can shred leaves. Maybe thats why I had to empty the bag so often!

I found that like another reviewer, A back and forth motion is better then a full head on frontal assault.

Taking your time is the best way to use this vac. I'm keeping it."

"I just bought this leaf vac last week - used it on the week-end and loved it ...I did have to adjust the height a few times until i got the correct level ...but it works great now. Last year i collected over 30 bags of leaves - this year with the leaf vac i only got 8 bags."

"Just bought this thing,and was not at all impressed.I have a large lawn,and the bag would fill up in one pass.The bag is cumbersome to handle,taking too long to empty and put back in place.Someone with a postage stamp size lawn might be happy with it,but I am not."

Not Bad Actually Works

"I must admit I was surprised on this purchase. It does a pretty good job. When I first saw the size of the bag, I thought I would be emptying this non-stop. While I doubt it really mulches 16:1, it is probably not far off. I estimate about 10:1.

You have to make sure that the wheels are adjusted as low as possible, without getting caught up on the terrain. This ensures that you get maximum suction. And the wheel adjustment is very easy with a flick of the lever, which adjusts both front wheels.

You may have to go over some areas twice, or as I have learned, just do a back and forth motion as you go. If the leaves have been walked over or are wet, it may hamper its ability. We have many different leaves, and I have not had any difficulty with large or small leaves.

Our house borders a large treed area on two sides, so needless to say, we get a ton of leaves in the fall. I have used this four times since getting it on the weekend and I am pleasantly surprised. I had blown the leaves into side piles in our backyard, since I have not had a chance to scoop after the dog. A back and forth motion through the piles picked up the leaves without any difficulty; on a few occasions I did have to tilt it back and let it drop onto its front wheels to unjam the leaves.

Additions that would be nice would be:
- Battery or gas powered.
- A manual wand like most vacuums that you could pull out to get hard to reach areas.

If you have lots of leaves it is certainly worth checking out. Like almost everything, different strokes for different folks."

Did anyone actually buy this? Does it work?

Question:

The concept looks great, but Ive been burned by every Yardworks product, VERY POOR quality and they never work as advertised. I certainly would like to be proven wrong.

Answer:

The quality is good as far as I'm concerned, but the performance is marginal. It will pick up only the loosest stuff sitting on top of the lawn, anything that's not just floating on top gets left behind. Pickup is somewhat better by tilting the unit on the front wheels so that the intake is scraping the ground, then pull it back towards you; but still leaves a fair bit behind. The mulcher is good, I've taken to raking the leaves into a pile then attacking them with the vac, and in that circumstance it works quite well - but that wasn't the purpose of it, was it?

Answer:

I agree with the other posts about it needing a bigger intake to avoid clogging and that it did not like picking up wet leaves; however, I did find that it did a better job while pulling it back rather than pushing it. Also this avoided digging in the front if the setting was too low to the ground or if your yard is uneven. I would recommend this for the mulching alone as it reduced my leaf bag count from 35 bags to 15 bags. Another recommendation would be to make the bag easier to dump into compost bags. Once you get used to a system, the process moves along much quicker than raking with alot less pain.

The concept is great but it doesn't work.
The intake for the leaves needs to be wider so that it doesn't constantly clog; but wider intake means less airflow so one really needs a bigger motor which would then have to make this a gas powered unit or use a much more efficient (and more expensive) electric motor.

Answer:

Save your bucks, you'll be disappointed again. On a positive it mulches great. Negative...it jams, it doesn't do well with wet or volume, the height adjustment is critical and unless your lawn is very even, you wind up with gut busting jolts or scraping your lawn down to the earth.
